SOLIDWORKS 2016 What’s New – Toolbox – #SW2016

SOLIDWORKS 2016 Toolbox has added the long awaited ability to change multiple toolbox items at the same time!!! Let's see how they did!

Edit multiple component configurations:

Overview

When selecting the components there are two key things to remember. One is that the components selected all have to be of the same type i.e. if you select a nut and a bolt you will not see the option to edit toolbox component in the right mouse button (RMB) menu. The other thing to keep in mind is the last selected object is the one that will show and arrow and that is the one that will control the configuration change. This arrow can be used to control the length by dragging and it will set all to the new length.

The components can also be selected in the feature tree and the edit component option will show up on the RMB menu.

Replacing Toolbox components

Along with the changing configurations, SOLIDWORKS now gives us the ability to replace multiple components at once.

Where is it?

This command is executed from the RMB menu using Edit Toolbox ComponentSolidWorks

Toolbox Favorites

Tired of digging for that fastener? You know the Toolbox, Ansi Inch, Bolts and Screws (scroll down…), Socket Head Screws, Socket Head Cap Screw. We can now set Toolbox favorites! Just drill down one more time then drag it into the Favorites folder as shown here. When needed just drag the shortcut into your model and it works just the same as dragging it from the original folder.

Oh, and .xlsx extension now shows up in the import/export dialog box. (it's only been around since Excel 2003)

We hope this part of the What’s New series gives you a better understanding of the new features and functions of SOLIDWORKS 2016. Please check back to the CATI Blog as the CATI Support Team will continue to break down many of the new items in SOLIDWORKS 2016.
