SOLIDWORKS 2016 What’s New – Offset Entities – #SW2016

Good morning and welcome to the start of week two of articles that the Computer Aided Technology Technical Team is publishing on the new features in SOLIDWORKS 2016. We are going to start this week with another one of my favorite old tools that got some much-needed updates – Offset Entities.

The first addition to Offset Entities is Cap Ends and you are saying to yourself that Cap Ends has been in the tool for years and you are correct but it was only for bi-directional offsets and now Cap Ends. In SOLIDWORKS 2016 you can now use Cap Ends in both a single or bi-directional offset.

The second addition for Construction Geometry and this is once again something they had before but added the ability to not only make the Base Geometry into construction but you can also make the new Offset geometry into Construction Geometry.

The last option is the most important as it was the most annoying before it was added because you had to undo or delete the offset geometry. That last new tool is Reversing Sketch Offsets and this can be done in several different ways.

To reverse sketch offsets:

• In the Dimension PropertyManager, under Primary Value, click the reverse direction icon.

• Double-click the offset dimension of a sketch entity. In the Modify dialog box, do one of the following:

• Click the reverse direction icon.

• Insert a minus sign before the existing dimension value.

• Right-click the offset dimension and click Reverse Direction.

I hope that everyone find the little changes to the Offset Entities as exciting as I do.

We hope this part of the What’s New series gives you a better understanding of the new features and functions of SOLIDWORKS 2016. Please check back to the CATI Blog as the CATI Support Team will continue to break down many of the new items in SOLIDWORKS 2016. All of these articles will be stored in the category of "SOLIDWORKS What's New."
