SOLIDWORKS 2016 What’s New – DimXpert – #SW2016

DimXpert has gotten some new upgrades this year! I truly believe it will make the stack up analysis easier and really hit it home for the new model based definition. Let's check out some new changes.

Basic dimensions can now be dropped in using the smart dimension tool. The dimensions will reposition itself just as a regular sketch dimension.

Datums have been modified to show correctly on the screen and on the drawing. Here we see the "R" has been removed from the datum block.

They also moved the datum so that it is displayed horizontally to orthographic views.

If you ever call out the datum with width dimension, you now have the ability to change the display of it (diameter to linear dimension) and where it resides on the annotation views.

Moving on to user-friendly aspects of the enhancements, SOLIDWORKS has lifted the limitation of only being able to select faces to prescribe a size or location dimension. You can now select model edges and silhouette edges to apply those types of dimensions. Just make sure you are in the plane of the view you want the dimension to be in.
