SOLIDWORKS, Stratasys, and Engineers Week 2016

This week February 21st – 27th is National Engineers Week and according to the NSPE (National Society of Professional Engineers) and DiscoverE websites National Engineers Week is observed on the third full week of February. It is observed by more than 70 engineering, education, and cultural societies, and more than 50 corporations and government agencies. The purpose of National Engineers Week is to call attention to the contributions to society that engineers make. It is also a time for engineers to emphasize the importance of learning math, science, and technical skills.

To do my part this week I presented to my son Conner's Pack 179 Wolf Den about how technology has changed the way we work in different industries. To show technology has made a difference I demonstrated how we can design anything they could imagine in SOLIDWORKS and then be able to turn that design into a real product using a Stratasys 3D printer.

The scouts had a lot of questions and enjoyed being able to get their hands on the different sample parts and watch the printer in action. Our meeting is only an hour so we designed a simple plate with the pack number in it. You can see the end result of our design and build below.

As fellow Engineers I ask that everyone please take a moment out of your week to see what events are going on in your area and make the time to help the next generation of Engineers.

Thanks,
