SOLIDWORKS "< MOD-DIAM >" instead of the Diameter Symbol

As SOLIDWORKS users upgrade to newer versions or update service packs, sometimes the diameter symbols will appear as "< MOD-DIAM >" instead of the Diameter Symbol.

Has this happened to you???

MOD Diameter

Most times, users can shut down SOLIDWORKS, wait a few seconds and restart SOLIDWORKS and the file is fixed. If that doesn’t work, what do we do?

This happens when the GTOL.SYM file is not pointing to the right place.

In SOLIDWORKS 2014, the GTOL.SYM file was moved from the install folder to the ProgramData folder.

To point the file to the correct location, go to Tools > Options > System Options > File Locations > Symbol Library File.

The Folder should be C:ProgramDataSolidWorksSOLIDWORKS <current version>langenglish

System Option Symbol folder

Once you've changed file locations, your dimension symbol should appear correctly.

As of SOLIDWORKS 2014, you can now assign your own folder for the location of the GTOL.SYM file.

Note: If you do not have a GTOL.SYM file, get the file from another SOLIDWORKS user that's diameter symbol is working properly and put it in the ProgramData folder or alternate folder that you are pointing too.
