Modifying a Section Line in a SOLIDWORKS Drawing

A few years ago, SOLIDWORKS revamped the way you create section views in SOLIDWORKS. Now I think it's easier than ever to create section and detail views. Even though it is easy to create a section view, what do you do if you need to make a change to one? That is actually pretty simple as well.

Here we have a Section A-A in a drawing that is straight and not going through the center of the model.

If you have a section view in the wrong location, you don't have to delete the section view and start over, you can edit it. All you have to do is right click on the section view line and select Edit Cutting Line.

You can either edit sketch or change from a section to half section. Also, you have the ability to change how the section is created by adding a jog, bend or an offset to the section.

I have chosen the offset. I then get to select where I want the offset to start. You then select where you want the offset to go through.

Select Ok, and that is how easy it is to make a change to a section view. Below is a couple of screenshots before the change and after the change so you can see the difference.

As you already know, one of the great benefits of SOLIDWORKS is how easy it is to use. What separates SOLIDWORKS from the competition is the ability to make changes and updates on the fly. Just another example of how SOLIDWORKS is making your day to day tasks even easier.
