Blog SOLIDWORKS Model Property Tools - Part3 - Section Properties
In this section of the model property tools, we will discuss the Section Properties command.
Using this tool, you can evaluate section properties for faces, multiple faces and sketches that lie in parallel planes. Section Properties is locates under the tools menu, or can be selected from the Evaluate command manager tab.
The Section Properties tool enables you to determine the section properties of a sketch in the sketching environment or of a selected planar face or faces in part or assembly mode. Only closed sketches with non-intersecting geometry can be determined. This includes the area, centroid relative to the sketch origin, centroid relative to the part origin, moment of inertia, polar moment of inertia, angle between principle axes and sketch axes, and principle moment of inertia.
To calculate section properties, select a sketch or face(s) then chose the section properties command.
When you invoke the section properties dialog box, a 3D triad will be placed at the centroid of the sketch or face.
The print button is used to print the section properties, or you can choose to copy to the clipboard.
Other options include the same as all mass properties, such as changing the coordinate system, units, etc.
